With their fantastic range of toys and other products there are many reasons to love the manufacturer Planet Dog. K9active recently had the opportunity to find out more about the inspiration behind this eco-friendly company and hear about their waste-free manufacturing processes.
What does your brand stand for?
At Planet Dog we are an eco-friendly company and we have 5 core values which we use to guide us in everything we do:
- Social responsibility
Our Planet Dog brand is very much about making premium dog products in a sustainable way and we operate our business with a strong dedication to our Pack (our internal team); our Community, which includes our customers, our vendors, our partners in the industry, our grantees, our friends and ultimately our Planet.
Where did the brand begin?
Planet Dog began back in 1997 and was born in Portland, Maine where we are still head quartered today. The company was founded on the belief that the pet industry needed an eco-friendly company and we were inspired by the likes of Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s.
Tell us more about your product range.
At Planet Dog we design and develop premium products for dogs and dog lovers. It is important for as that our eco-friendly toys are made from renewable, recyclable and natural materials such as hemp, bamboo, recycled and recyclable plastics.
Our Orbee-Tuff® line is made from a recyclable material that includes 20 – 100% recycled material and is made in the USA to reduce transportation time and to reduce the use of fossil fuels which comes from having to ship items from overseas.
The Orbee-Tuff® line has a range of different toys in various shapes and sizes so we can offer something for every dog regardless of their size or chewing habits. One of our best known products is our Orbee Ball which has been described in Parade Magazine as being the best dog ball on the planet! They are minty, bouncy, buoyant, outrageously durable and 100% guaranteed any time and every time.
We are also very proud of our Recycle Line™ which allows us to have a waste-free manufacturing process. We will take all the excess material from our production line, any items which do not meet our strict quality control standards along with any discontinued products then grinding them all up to reuse to make new toys. We also recycle any toys that are returned to us once a dog is finished playing with them or that have come to the end of their lifespan.
Are there any individual dogs associated with your brand?
We don’t have a single dog that represents Planet Dog but believe that every single dog does and our Pack of office dogs is always growing and changing.
Is your founder still working within the company?
Yes, our founder Alex Fisher remains the Chief Creative Officer at Planet Dog and he is constantly developing new ideas and trying to perfect every product we make.
What are the future plans for the company?
It is our intention that Planet Dog will continue to grow, innovate, producing and ultimately celebrating the lifestyle that dogs and people share. And through that, we will continue giving back to dogs that are helping people in need.
Thank you Planet Dog for taking the time to talk to us at K9active and sharing your philosophy with us.
